Es troba a les aigües tropicals i subtropicals dels oceans Atlàntic[2][3] (Cap Verd),[4][5] Índic[6] i Pacífic[7][8][9] (el Japó,[10] Papua Nova Guinea,[11][12] Austràlia -Nova Gal·les del Sud i Tasmània-,[13][14][15] Nova Zelanda,[16][17] les illes Hawaii[18][19] i Mèxic -Baixa Califòrnia-).[20][21]
