AWM caption : "France: Picardie, Somme, Proyart. A 12 inch railway gun supporting the Australians near Proyart".
Comment : This is one of the 2 guns mounted on slightly differing Vickers Mk I railway carriages, identified by the distinctive gun mounting with recoil buffers above the barrel and bogies with frames between rather than outside the wheels.
This gun's mounting has a warping winch at the front, and the carriage frame has a diamond shape from the side. See also Image:12inchMkIVickersRailwayGunCorbie1918.jpeg for another view of this gun in action.
