English: The current world record holder for the wettest place on earth is the cluster of villages known as Mawsynram in India. The average annual rainfall is 11.87 m (467.35”), with over 25.4 m (1000”) having fallen in 1985. The annual monsoon is responsible for bringing such prodigious amounts of rain. Mawsynram is located in the State of Meghalaya, which translates as the abode of clouds. The image was acquired on March 9, 2015, covers an area of 15 by 19.5 km, and is located at 25.5 degrees north, 91.6 degrees east.
