Limnichthys fasciatus és una espècie de peix de la família dels creédids i de l'ordre dels perciformes.[5]

Descripció modifica
El cos (completament recobert d'escates, críptic, comprimit i allargat semblant al d'una anguila) fa 5 cm de llargària màxima i presenta una coloració pàl·lida a la zona ventral i un reguitzell de taques fosques a la part posterior. 12-43 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 22-40 a l'anal. Aletes pectorals amb 11 - 16 radis tous i pelvianes amb 1 espina i 5 radis tous. Línia lateral no interrompuda i amb 38-43 escates. Obertura de la boca gairebé horitzontal. Musell carnós, projectat més enllà de la mandíbula inferior i punxegut per a poder excavar. Filera d'apèndixs mòbils vorejant la mandíbula inferior. La símfisi de la mandíbula inferior presenta una projecció dorsal. Els ulls sobresurten lleugerament, estan situats a prop del perfil dorsal del cap, es mouen independentment l'un de l'altre, tenen una còrnia de refracció[6] i una lent no esfèrica cada un[7][8][9] i es troben orientats cap endavant per a detectar més fàcilment les preses.[10][11][12] És força similar a Limnichthys nitidus, del qual es distingeix pel nombre de radis tous de l'aleta dorsal.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
Alimentació modifica
El seu nivell tròfic és de 3,29.[19]
Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica modifica
És un peix marí, associat als esculls fins als 150 m de fondària[14] i de clima tropical, el qual viu a l'Índic[20] i el Pacífic[21] occidental: els fons sorrencs o de grava des del Japó[22][23][24][25][26][27] (incloent-hi les illes Ogasawara)[28][29][30] i Taiwan[31][32][33][34][35] fins a les illes Filipines,[14][36] Indonèsia,[14][37] Papua Nova Guinea,[38][39] Austràlia (Austràlia Occidental,[40][41] Queensland, Nova Gal·les del Sud i les illes Lord Howe[42][43][44] i Norfolk),[45][43][44][14][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58] Nova Zelanda[59][60][61] (incloent-hi les illes Kermadec)[44][43][62] i Tonga.[63][64][65][3][15][66]
Observacions modifica
És inofensiu per als humans,[15] el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és baix (10 de 100)[67] i no té cap valor comercial.[16]
