Mabel Van Buren

Mabel Van Buren (Chicago (Illinois), 17 de juliol de 1878−Hollywood (Califòrnia), 4 de novembre de 1947)[1] va ser una actriu teatral i de cinema activa sobretot a l’època del cinema mut. Entre les pel·lícules més conegudes en què participa es poden esmentar Willful Peggy, de D. W. Griffith, The Warrens of Virginia i Manslaughter, de Cecil B. DeMille, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse de Rex Ingram o Beyond the Rocks, de Sam Wood.

Biografia modifica

Va néixer a Chicago educant-se en escoles públiques.[2] Va començar com a actriu teatral sent protagonista en obres com “Monsieur Beaucaire”, “Pretty Peggy”, “Bedford’s Hope”, “The Man of the Hour”, i les primeres versions de “The Virginian” o “The Squaw Man”.[2] Inicià la seva carrera cinematogràfica amb la Biograph però després es passà a la Vitagraph, Kinemacolor, Selig, Fox, Clune Film i Lasky.[2] El 1914 es va traslladar a Hollywood on participà en diferents pel·lícules de Cecil B. DeMille.[3] Arribà a ser una de les actrius destacades de la Famous Players-Lasky, que més endavant esdevindria la Paramount. Estava casada amb l’actor James Gordon amb qui tingueren una filla, que també fou actriu.[3] Es retirà de l'escena el 1941 i morí després d’una breu malaltia a Hollywood el 1947.[3]
