Marcusenius victoriae
Marcusenius victoriae és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels mormírids i a l'ordre dels osteoglossiformes.[2][3]

Etimologia modifica
Marcusenius fa referència a l'alemany Johann Marcusen[4] (el primer ictiòleg a estudiar els mormírids de forma sistemàtica),[5] mentre que l'epítet victoriae al·ludeix al llac Victòria.
Descripció modifica
Fa 26 cm de llargària màxima.[6] Aleta anal del mascle més ampla que la de la femella.[7]
Reproducció modifica
És ovípar[8] i migra riu amunt per a fresar.[7] Al llac Victòria, la femella és capaç de pondre entre 846 i 16.748 ous durant l'època reproductora.[9][10]
Alimentació modifica
Es nodreix de larves d'insectes aquàtics (sobretot, de quironòmids i odonats), crustacis (ostracodes i Diaptomus), gastròpodes, ous de peixos i detritus.[11][12]
Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica modifica
És un peix d'aigua dolça, demersal, potamòdrom[7] i de clima tropical,[4] el qual viu a Àfrica:[13] les badies associades a rius[14] poc fondes i de fons sorrencs i rocallosos i, estacionalment també, els fons fangosos adjacents als extensos pantans de papirs[4] del Nil Blanc i dels llacs Victòria,[15][16][17] Kyoga,[18] Nabugabo[18] i Kwania[4] a Tanzània,[19][20] Kenya,[6][21] Ruanda[22][23] i Uganda.[13][24][25][1][4]
Estat de conservació modifica
Les seues poblacions s'ha reduït un 50% en els 10 darrers anys a causa de la contaminació, els mètodes de pesca il·legals, la sobrepesca, la pèrdua dels aiguamolls a causa de l'expansió agrícola i la introducció d'espècies exòtiques.[18][26][14]
Observacions modifica
És inofensiu per als humans,[4] el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és de baix a moderat (28 de 100)[27] i és parasitat per Rhabdochona i Spinitectus.[28][29]
