Descripció modifica

  • Pot arribar a fer 7 cm de llargària màxima.
  • 11-13 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 10-11 a l'anal.[3][4]

Alimentació modifica

Menja plàncton.[3]

Depredadors modifica

És depredat a les illes Marshall per Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, Lutjanus vitta i Scomberoides lysan; a Salomó per Atule mate, Caranx melampygus, Megalaspis cordyla, Scomberoides tol, Chirocentrus dorab, Lutjanus ehrenbergii, Auxis thazard, Euthynnus affinis i Rastrelliger kanagurta. També ho és per l'anfós lleopard (Plectropomus leopardus).[5]

Hàbitat modifica

És un peix marí, associat als esculls i de clima tropical (40°N-29°S, 29°E-143°W) que viu entre 0-50 m de fondària.[3][6]

Distribució geogràfica modifica

Es troba des del mar Roig i l'Àfrica Oriental[7][8] fins a les illes de la Societat (llevat de les Tuamotu i les illes Marqueses), el sud del Japó[9] i el nord d'Austràlia.[10][11][12] N'hi ha un registre a la Mediterrània oriental (Tel-Aviv, Israel).[13][14][3][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58][59]

Ús comercial modifica

Es comercialitza fresc, en salaó i com a esquer per a la pesca de la tonyina.[60]

Observacions modifica

És inofensiu per als humans.[3]
