La conca fa uns {{convert|1800|km|mi|abbr=on}} d'amplada i s'enfonsa {{convert|5.2|km|ft|abbr=on}} sota la plana que l'envolta; és la segona conca d'impacte més profunda de Mart després de [[Hellas Planitia|Hellas]]. El cràter [[Galle (cràter marcià)|Galle]], situat a la vora est d'Argyre a {{Coord|51|S|31|W|globe:Mars}}, sembla molt una cara somrient.
