19 November of 2005: ''Wiquipèdia reaches 20.000 entries in catalan.''
At this time WiquipèdiaWikipèdia in Catalan, or Valencian, (ca.wikipedia.org) has already overcome the 20.000 entries, and continues growing. The WiquipèdiaWikipèdia is part of a world-wide effort that it has for goal to construct an encyclopedia for general use, for free distribution (see www.wikipedia.org) and of quality, through a net of free participation of volunteers from all over the world. The conditions of use of the contents of the WiquipèdiaWikipèdia are under the terms of the license [[GFDL]]. This means that everybody can use the articles freely, They can be copied, edited and distributed, fulfilling two requirements in a basic way: mentioning the information source, and that the conditions of use follow the same license GFDL, or compatible.
The WikidediaWikipedia project is really international and multilingual: there are more than 110 editions in different languages, working in an autonomous way and, globally, they contain of near 2'5 millions of entries.
The Viquipèdia (in Catalan) was born inon March 2001 and was the second version to see the light after the WiquipèdiaWikipèdia in English. In all this time it has been consolidated in a number of editions among the twenty greater languages. On 16 November 2004 reached the 10.000 entries milestone, with which, in a year, the WiquipèdiaViquipèdia in Catalan has doubled the number of articles attaining the current figure of 20.000. Not only this; in general the quality of the editions has also increased (for example, the medium size of the entries orand the number sometimesof thattimes they have been edited), the TitleMain Page has been reworked, our Tavern has a new look, they have settled|established a bunch of "viquiprojectes" to improve certain areas of knowledge, thehave "article|itembeen ofsettled, the fifteenth",fortnight etcentry" has been turned on, etc. But stillthere remainsis still a lot to makedo: we will turn on the viquiportals, new ways to understand the world of the Viquipèdia, we will create new viquiprojectes and new entries that will help one of the great references of wisdom for us to acting as this Viquipèdia in our language.
All this has been possible thanks to the remarkable increase of collaborators who there have been this year. In the last months we have had, on average, 314 viquipedisteswiquipedists contributing actively. But they size up many more! Many "important" entries still remain to makedo, and many of those that at present still exist are far from the standard of quality that we would wantlike. However, the viquipèdia is already an encyclopediaa useful encyclopedia, that can be used in an individual or collective way at home, at schools or in the job.
Everybody can collaborate in the Viquipèdia. Any person with a connection in Internet can create new entries, or edit those that already exist. You can help to|in the project creating or editing entries in those subjects that are from your interest. Have you checked out if there are entries about your village or region, your profession or your interests already? It is not necessary to be an expert to collaborate in the Viquipèdia: any constructive collaboration is welcome, even if only it|he|she is only an orthographic correction. You can create entries again, or you can adapt them from other sources, whenever you respect the author's copyright.
