== Preludi ==

havia confiat que França i el Regne Unit acceptarien les seves conquestes i no trigarien a negociar la pau. Aquest punt era essencial per ell a causa que les reserves alemanyes de matèries primeres (i de divises per adquirir-les) eren críticament baixes. En aquells moments, Alemanya depenia dels subministraments de la [[Unió Soviètica]], una situació que els resultava poc còmoda a causa de motius ideològics. El 6 d'octubre de 1939, [[Adolf Hitler]] va realitzar un discurs en el ''[[Reichstag]]'' demanant a França i al Regne Unit la fi de les hostilitats entre els seus respectius països (proposta rebutjada tant per britànics com per francesos); però fins i tot abans que aquestes tinguessin temps de respondre, el 9 d'octubre formulà una nova política militar per si de cas la resposta fos negativa: la ''Führer-Anweisung N°6'', o "Directiva del Führer Número 6".<ref>Shirer, (1990), p.715</ref>
