Bathyuroconger prové dels mots grecs bathys (profund) i oura (cua), i del llatí conger (congre).[3]

Distribució geogràfica modifica

Es troba a la conca Indo-Pacífica[4][5] (des de les costes de l'Àfrica oriental fins a les illes Hawaii,[6] incloent-hi el canal de Moçambic,[7] el corrent Agulhas,[8] l'Índia,[9][10] la Xina,[11] Indonèsia,[12] Papua Nova Guinea,[13] Austràlia,[14] Nova Caledònia,[4] les illes Marqueses,[4] les illes Filipines,[12] el corrent de Kuroshio[15] i el Japó),[15] l'Atlàntic occidental (des de l'est del Golf de Mèxic fins a les Guaianes,[16] incloent-hi Cuba[17][18] i el mar Carib)[19] i l'Atlàntic oriental[20][21] (el corrent de Canàries,[22] Cap Verd,[23] el corrent de Guinea,[20] Namíbia,[24][25] el corrent de Benguela[20] i Cap Point -Sud-àfrica-).[26][27]
