Descripció modifica

El cos, pàl·lid, fa 3,5 cm de llargària màxima i presenta entre 8 i 12 franges estretes i curtes al llarg del dors. Cap espina i 22-25 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i cap espina i 26-28 radis tous a l'anal. 12-13 radis tous a les aletes pectorals. Absència d'aleta adiposa. Línia lateral no interrompuda i amb 39-41 escates.[8][9][10]

Alimentació modifica

El seu nivell tròfic és de 3.[11]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica modifica

És un peix marí, demersal (entre 8 i 9 m de fondària)[12] i de clima tropical, el qual viu a la conca Indo-Pacífica: des del mar Roig[13][14][15] i l'illa de la Reunió,[16][17][18] les illes Seychelles,[19][20] Madagascar,[21] Moçambic[22][23] i Sud-àfrica (KwaZulu-Natal)[9][24] fins a Austràlia (Austràlia Occidental,[25] Queensland, Nova Gal·les del Sud, les illes Ashmore i Cartier[26] i el mar del Corall),[27][28][29][30][31][32][33] Taiwan,[34] el Japó[35][36][37][38] (incloent-hi les illes Ogasawara),[39][40] les illes Hawaii,[12][41][42] les illes Cook[43] i Pitcairn,[44][45] incloent-hi l'arxipèlag de les Txagos,[46][47][48] el Vietnam,[49][50] les illes Filipines,[51][52] Indonèsia,[53][54][55] Nova Caledònia,[56][57][58] Samoa,[59][60] Fiji,[61][62] les illes Marshall,[63][64] Palau[65][66] i Tonga.[67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][4][10][75] Les poblacions sud-africanes i de les illes Hawaii tenen una coloració lleugerament diferent i poden representar espècies diferents.[76]

Observacions modifica

És inofensiu per als humans,[10] el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és baix (10 de 100)[77] i no té cap valor comercial.[34]
