Van Zandt està casat amb l'actriu Maureen Van Zandt (abans Maureen Santoro), que va fer el paper de la seva dona Gabriella Dante a la sèrie de televisió ''[[The Sopranos]]''. Es van casar a [[Nova York]] el 31 de desembre de 1982. [[Bruce Springsteen]] va ser el padrí de la cerimònia, i la va oficiar el Reverend Richard Penniman ([[Little Richard]]).
