L'[[escut d'Irlanda]] es va originar com l'escut dels monarques d'Irlandes, essent enregistrat com l'escut del Rei d'Irlanda durant el {{segle|XII}}. A partir de la [[Unió de les Corones]] d'[[Regne d'Anglaterra|Anglaterra]], [[Regne d'Escòcia|Escòcia]] i [[Regne d'Irlanda|Irlanda]] el 1603, apareixia quarterat a l'[[Escut del Regne Unit]]. Actualment és l'escut personal del president d'Irlanda, mentre aquest o aquesta assumeix el càrrec, i s'oneja com l'[[Escut d'Irlanda|estandart presidencial]]. El símbol de l'arpa s'utilitza molt habitualment per part de l'estat per marcar documents oficials, monedes irlandeses i al [[segell del President d'Irlanda]].
