Orn. i. p. 219 (1760).Type, P. perdix (L.).Differs from the preceding genera in having the tail com-posed of either sixteen or eighteen feathers, nearly equal inlength, the outer pair being only slightly shorter than themiddle pair, which are more than half the length of the wing.The first primary flight-feather is intermediate in length betweenthe seventh and eighth, and the fourth is slightly the longest.The feet are without spurs in either sex, and the plumage ofboth is alike or slightly different.
