NYC's Lake Ruth was formed in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist Hewson Chen of The New Lines, drummer Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck / Enon / SAVAK) and vocalist Allison Brice (The Eighteenth Day Of May, The Silver Abduction). Lake Ruth, the new band featuring multi-instrumentalist Hewson Chen (The New Lines), drummer Matt Schulz (Enon, Holy Fuck) and vocalist Allison Brice (The Eighteenth Day of May), release their debut album, Actual Entity, on June 24 via The Great Pop Supplement. Much like The New Lines, Actual Entity explores all manner of '60s baroque psychedelia, full of chiming guitars, harpsichord, a wide array of organs and synthesizers, and dips into faery folk, krautrock and other studies. It's the collaborative nature that makes Lake Ruth special, however. Schulz is a powerful drummer and brings serious backbone to Lake Ruth. Paired with Chen's bass, you've got a very groovy rhythm section. Brice, meanwhile brings just the right airy quality with her vocals. Inspired by 1960's sonic experimentation, baroque psychedelia, library obscurities, vintage pop noir, Giallo soundtracks, kraut and jazz, Lake Ruth creates intriguing and unique music rich with multilayered instrumentation, propulsive rhythms and atmospheric vocals. Following up two excellent albums and several singles, 'Extended Leave' is their latest music and perhaps the sharpest, most incisive example of their deep, thought-provoking pop yet.
