L'Institut Franklin va continuar la concessió de la medalla de forma ocasional fins a 1998 quan es van reorganitzar els seus premis dotats sota un mateix paraigua, Els Premis Benjamin Franklin. Un total de 268 medalles Elliott Cresson es van donar a cap durant la vida de la concessió.
