Allocyttus folletti és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels oreosomàtids i a l'ordre dels zeïformes.[4][5]

Etimologia modifica

Allocyttus prové dels mots grecs allos (un altre) i kyttaros, kytos (una cavitat convexa),[6] mentre que folletti fa referència a William I. Follet de l'Acadèmia de les Ciències de Califòrnia, el qual fou un especialista dels peixos de Califòrnia.[7]

Descripció modifica

Fa 42 cm de llargària màxima[8] (tot i que la seua mida més normal és de 35,1 cm)[8] i 1,3 kg de pes.[8] 7 espines i 33 radis tous a l'única aleta dorsal. 3 espines i 31-32 radis tous a l'aleta anal. Ulls grans (al voltant de la meitat de la llargada del cap). Escates amb una mena de cresta central a l'àrea interorbitària, el clatell, el ventre i les bases de les aletes dorsal i anal.[9] 85-87 escates a la línia lateral. Aletes pectorals amb cap espina i 19-20 radis tous. Aletes pelvianes amb 1 espina i 6-6 radis tous.[10]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica modifica

És un peix marí, batidemersal i oceanòdrom[11] (entre 366 i 732 m de fondària[12] i en aigües de temperatura compresa entre 2 °C-4 °C),[8] el qual viu al Pacífic nord:[13] des del Japó[9][14] fins a la mar de Bering[12][15][16] i Califòrnia[17][18][19] (els Estats Units), incloent-hi Rússia,[12][20][21][22] els Estats Units[12][23] (com ara, Alaska),[24][25][26] el Canadà,[27][28][29] la mar del Japó,[12][30][31] el golf d'Alaska,[12][32] els monts submarins Nintoku[33][34] i Suiko,[33][35] i els corrents de Califòrnia[12][36] i de Kuroshio.[9][37][3][6]

Observacions modifica

És inofensiu per als humans,[6] el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és d'alt a molt alt (66 de 100)[38] i els joves són pelàgics, mentre que els adults viuen a prop del fons marí.[12]
