Etimologia modifica

Chalixodytes prové dels mots grecs chalix, -ikos (còdols) i dyte (bussejar).[2]

Distribució geogràfica modifica

Es troba des de l'Índic[3] (l'arxipèlag de les Txagos,[4][5][6] l'illa de la Reunió,[7][8][9][10] les Seychelles[11][12][13][14] i l'illa Christmas)[15][16] fins al Pacífic[17][18] (Austràlia,[19][20] les illes Mariannes[21][22] Guam -incloent-hi l'illa Cocos,[21][23][24] les illes Marshall,[25][26] Palau,[21][27] Samoa,[28][29] Fiji,[30][31] les illes Tuamotu,[25][32] les illes Loyauté[33] i Pitcairn).[25][34][35] És probable que també sigui present a l'Índia,[36][37] Nova Caledònia[33][38][39][40] i Tonga.[41][42][43][44]

Chalixodytes tauensis n'és l'unica espècie que apareix a la Llista Vermella de la UICN.[55]
