Descripció modifica

Alimentació modifica

Menja zooplàncton petit (sobretot, copèpodes).[7][8]

Depredadors modifica

A l'Estat espanyol és depredat per la llampuga (Coryphaena hippurus).[9][10]

Hàbitat modifica

És un peix marí i batipelàgic[11] que viu entre 10 i 2.000 m de fondària[12] (normalment, entre 200 i 900)[13] i entre les latituds 67°N-40°S, 180°W-180°E .[6]

Distribució geogràfica modifica

Es troba a la mar Mediterrània;[14][15][16][17][18][19][20] les àrees tropicals i subtropicals de l'Atlàntic, l'Índic i el Pacífic sud; l'Atlàntic nord de clima temperat fins a la latitud 66°N[21] i les aigües subantàrtiques del sud d'Austràlia.[22][6][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][12][40][41][42][43][44]

Observacions modifica

És inofensiu per als humans i la seua esperança de vida és d'1 any.[45][6]
