Richardsonichthys leucogaster és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels tetrarògids i l'única del gènere Richardsonichthys.[3][4]

Etimologia modifica

L'epítet leucogaster deriva dels mots grecs λευκός (leukós, blanc) i gaster (ventre), i fa referència a la seua superfície ventral uniformement blanca.[5]

Descripció modifica

Fa 10 cm de llargària màxima.[6] 13 espines i 8 radis tous a l'única aleta dorsal. 3 espines i 6 radis tous a l'anal. Cap arrodonit. Membranes força feses a la part espinosa de l'aleta dorsal.[7] Absència d'escates. Ventre sovint de color vermell. Taca blanca entre els ulls. Presenta matisos de color marró, negre i vermell a la seua coloració corporal. La primera espina de l'aleta dorsal té menys de la meitat de la longitud de la segona. Dues espines a l'os lacrimal.[8] Línia lateral contínua. Aletes pectorals amb 15-16 radis tous.[9]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica modifica

És un peix marí, associat als esculls (entre 8 i 90 de fondària)[8] i de clima tropical,[10] el qual viu a la conca Indo-Pacífica:[11] els esculls costaners llimosos,[6] les àrees sorrenques protegides de les badies costaneres i zones d'alta mar[10] des de Tanzània (incloent-hi Zanzíbar)[12][13] fins a Nova Caledònia,[14][15][16][17] incloent-hi Madagascar,[12][18] les illes Seychelles,[19][20] l'Índia,[11][21] Tailàndia,[22][23] Indonèsia,[24][25] Papua Nova Guinea,[26][27] Austràlia[28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35] (Austràlia Occidental,[36] el Territori del Nord,[37] el golf de Carpentària i Queensland),[38] la Gran Barrera de Corall,[11][39][40] el mar del Corall,[11][41][40] les illes Filipines,[7][42] el mar de la Xina Meridional[43][44][45] i la Xina.[46][47][48][2]

Observacions modifica

És inofensiu per als humans,[10] nocturn (generalment, s'enterra a la sorra durant el dia),[7] poc freqüent (és conegut principalment per ésser capturat per les xarxes d'arrossegament destinades a pescar gambes)[10] i el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és de baix a moderat (32 de 100).[49]
